João Miguel Couto Duarte (1966) is a Lisbon born Portuguese architect practicing since 1990 and an assistant professor in the architectural design department at Universidade Lusíada de Lisboa’s Faculdade de Arquitectura e Artes (FAA/ULL) where he teaches since 1991. The relation between architectural representation – drawing and scale models – and design practice has long been his main research field, authoring several essays and presenting multiples communications on the subject both in national and international conferences.

He is a research fellow at Design, Architecture and Territory Research Centre – CITAD at ULL. “Aires Mateus: Matter in Reverse”, directed by Henrique Pina, is his debut in film production. João holds a degree in architecture from Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (FAUTL) (1990), a MSc in Art Theories from Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade de Lisboa (FBAUL) (2005) and a PhD in Architecture from Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade de Lisboa (FAUL)(2016).
